A small team of many talents.
Chef, entertainer, historian, musician, therapist, planner, sherpa… there’s no end to the list of roles our guides play. We’ve gone out of our way to assemble the very best – a small, highly dedicated team of legendary guides, who will ensure your holiday is one you won’t soon forget!
Brad is a hiking veteran with over 21 years experience in the North Island outdoors. Originally trained as a whitewater rafting guide, Brad made the switch to trail adventures early and has never looked back. Brad holds a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care First Aid Qualification.
Brad takes a particular interest in the Lake Waikaremoana, Coromandel and Great Barrier Island areas and has hiked the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk over 100 times!
He’s quick with an interesting story about our native New Zealand flora and fauna and loves his 80’s pop culture and vintage Star Wars memorabilia.
‘Brad possessed a wonderful combination of experience, humour, knowledge and a fantastic way with people. These few days were really a highlight of my year!’
DEBORAH, Waikaremoana Discovery Tour
‘Brad had us on his own for 4 days. He was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and yet gave us space and time on our own. We couldn’t fault him. And we learnt a lot about the Coromandel environment in a most interesting way.’
SUE, Coromandel Explorer
‘Brad is very knowledgeable, and he is always willing to share his knowledge about Te Urewera and also about his secret recipes. Thanks Brad!’
SARMILA, Waikaremoana Guided Walk
Elaine has possibly one of the most interesting accents you’ll ever come across. Born in the UK, she connected deeply with Aotearoa and spent 16 years living and working in the New Zealand outdoors. Over the past couple of seasons, she’s been busy guiding for a number of companies on the Bay of Fires and Great Ocean Walks in Australia becoming an accomplished lead guide and outdoor professional. There’s a Brit-Aussie-Kiwi flavour to our Elaine that makes her the ultimate, global, trail companion. Just don’t mention the rugby.
She’s been riding a mountain bike for almost 3 decades and still absolutely loves it, having learned many of her skills in Rotorua. When she’s not working you’ll find her out trail running, walking the dog or carving wooden spoons.
‘Great walks, excellent accommodation, top food and looked after so well by Brad and Elaine. It’s more than walks! It’s a fantastic way to see and experience Lake Waikaremoana.’
IAN, Waikaremoana Discovery Tour
‘We had a great guide, Elaine, very pleasant to be with and most helpful, really enjoyed her company.’
SUE, Waikaremoana Discovery Tour
‘We did the Waikaremoana Discovery Tour trip and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The accommodation, catering, hospitality of the hosts, and enthusiasm and helpfulness of our guide, Elaine, together with the fantastic views, swimming and other activities were fantastic. Thank you Walking Legends.’

Hamish is undertaking a full-immersion te reo Māori programme so feel free to test him out on his vocabulary and help us keep him sharp!

You won’t get lost with Julian. At 6’5″, not only are his head and shoulders about 3 feet above everyone elses’ you can just follow the orange trail marker tattooed on his calf. He enjoys foraging for food in the forest but also knows where to get a good éclair in Ohakune. When he’s not leading groups over the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, spinning great yarns, you’ll find him surveying the world from up on Mt. Ruapehu, in the freezing cold, in a tent, happy as a pig in the proverbial.
‘Julian was great we were looked after so well. It was wonderful to have our family in such safe hands in the mountains. Julian is an amazing asset to your business and people would choose to go on walks because he is the guide. Thanks to Julian for his willingness to offer first aid. It was a pleasure to spend time with him.’
